नई दिल्ली New Delhi: Union Railway Minister Mr.Suresh Prabhu has sought cooperation of all Chief Ministers to forge partnerships between the Centre and the states to develop railway infrastructure across the country which could fuel economic growth.
“To develop infrastructure more funds are needed, tracks need to be broadened and for that land is needed and the cooperation of the state governments becomes essential .
Elevated Rail Corridors for Mumbai
Six-lane roads will be constructed on same route, said minister Suresh Prabhu. If all goes well, Mumbai will soon have two elevated rail corridors on its harbour and western line. One will be between CST and Panvel while the other will be between Churchgate and Virar. Union Railway minister Suresh Prabhu made the announcement recently. He said that owing to the serious stress on infrastructure resources of Mumbai, the Union railway ministry had decided to start the implementation of phase 3 of the MUTP (Mumbai Urban Transport Project) and both the elevated rail corridors were part of it.
SEO appointed in NIT for Nagpur Metro Rail
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has appointed a special executive officer (SEO) in Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) to handle the formation of SPV – Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL). NIT is still the nodal agency for the project. It had cleared the proposal to appoint the SEO in its board meeting on December 30.
The prospective managing director (MD) of NMRCL, Brajesh Dixit, is the SEO. Dixit is a former divisional railway manager (DRM) of Nagpur. The post of SEO is temporary and will exist at the most for six months. As there is no post of MD in NIT, Fadnavis appointed him as SEO, a post already existing in NIT.
HYD Metro successfully run Train in Automatic mode; sets new record
Hyderabad Metro Rail project created new technology record by successfully running a train in Automatic Train Operation mode on 31st Dec. for the first time on Indian soil.
In this mode train operates on its own and self controls its movement, speed, performance etc., with automatic application of brakes without intervention of the train driver. The function of the driver is only to press a button to close the doors at stations and it is a prelude to completely driverless mode which Hyderabad Metro can upgrade any time it wants.
The technology and equipment for Hyderabad Metro signalling system are supplied by French company Thales.
MRVC proposes to extend Harbour Line up to Virar on western suburbs
Mumba city’s railway development body has proposed to extend Harbour line services up to Virar on the western suburbs though work is already on to extend it up to Goregaon. Work on extending the corridor up to Goregaon, which was expected to be completed by May 2014, has been delayed because a small portion of land is not yet handed over to the MRVC. The project is now expected to be completed before the onset of monsoon.
